Visa Concession to Foreigners in South Africa

Breytenbachs can confirm that the South African Government has granted a visa concession to some categories of foreigners in South Africa. This brings good news for overseas visitors who cannot return to their home country due to travel bans. It is also welcome news for foreign nationals who are awaiting the outcome of their waiver applications.

Visa Concession for Overseas Visitors

Breytenbachs can confirm that the South African government has given visa concessions to overseas visitors to South Africa.

If you have entered South Africa as a tourist from 1 October 2021 and cannot travel back to your country of residence due to travel bans, your visitor visa will automatically be extended to 31 March 2022.

This temporary blanket extension will be valid until 31 March 2022. It will allow you to depart from South Africa at any time while the extension is still in place without being declared undesirable.

Visa Concession for Waiver Applications

Foreign nationals residing in South Africa awaiting the outcome of their waiver applications will also fall under this visa concession.

These applicants have been granted blanket extensions until 31 March 2022, provided they have a pending waiver application.

Foreign nationals who wish to abandon their waiver applications / longer-term SA visa applications lodged previously and want to depart the country will be allowed to exit at a port of entry before or on 31 March 2022 without being declared undesirable.  However, it is important to note that this will most likely result in the pending application being cancelled by the SA authorities.
