The validity of South African visas was addressed by the South African Minister of Home Affairs in a statement on 29 June 2021. Visas of persons legally in South Africa was extended. The extension of the visas is to accommodate South African visa holders who could not extend their visas due to lockdown regulations.

Validity of Short Stay South African Visas

Breytenbachs have good news for migrants in South Africa with a short stay visa of up to 90 days. The visas that would have expired during lockdown will now be valid until 30 September 2021.

Migrants with these short-stay visas can extend their visa by this date. If they do not extend their visa, they have to leave the country by 30 September 2021.

Validity of Longer Stay South African Visas

The visas of persons in South Africa, who currently have visas for 90 days or more, will automatically be extended to 30 September 2021. Such persons can either extend their visa before this expiry date or leave the country by this date.

Visa holders in both categories above will be able to remain in South Africa under the existing conditions of their visas.

Validity of Visas for persons who entered South Africa after 15 March 2021

The above concessions do not apply to persons who received their visa on 15 March 2021 or after that.
