EUSS Application – latest advice from Breytenbachs

The latest statistics published by the Government shows that the Home Office has received over 6 million EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) applications as of 30 September 2021.

The Home Office statistics show some interesting reading. The applications for Settled Status make up 52% of all applications. While the applications for Pre-settled Status make up 42% of all applications.

Current processing times of the EUSS

Before the deadline of 30 June 2021, the UK Government approved EUSS applications as quickly as within one day. Most others within a week.

Unfortunately, the quick turn-around times are something of the past. The Home Office does not currently provide any time frames for EUSS application decisions. However, Breytenbachs experiences that most of our EUSS clients receive a decision within 3 – 6 months from the date of the application.

We also experience that the lengthiest delays are with EUSS applications submitted via a paper form. The same applies to applications submitted out of time.  We have also noticed that applications to upgrade pre-settled status to settled status can be decided quickly. Often within four weeks.

Advice on travelling with a pending EUSS application

One can travel outside the UK while you have a pending EUSS application.

However, Breytenbachs strongly recommend that EUSS applicants who cannot yet prove their status in the UK under the EUSS do NOT travel outside the UK.  Breytenbachs advises against travelling outside the UK under these circumstances. This is to prevent possible issues when such applicants attempt to re-enter the UK.

Exceptions do apply. Therefore, please contact us if you have an application pending and need to travel outside the UK.
